Sin & Temptation Questions – Ch. 4

TOLBC believes that growth in the Christian faith is a life-long endeavor and that one of the places it can happen best is in Sunday School class. Sunday school is important in the spiritual development of Christians. It is the only place in most churches that gives a systematic, comprehensive, complete coverage of the Word of God. Currently we are studying “Sin and Temptation” by John Owen. We invite you to join us.

Chapter 4: The Enticement of Indwelling Sin (Pages 59-63)

  1. Read Gen. 39:1-18, how was Joseph able to overcome the “enticement of indwelling sin?” (In your answer, develop at least 3 insightful principles)
  2. John Owens on page 60 said “When we indulge with delight in thoughts of forbidden things, we commit sin, even though our will has not yet consented to perform the deed.” What does this mean? Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Please use Scriptural proofs to validate your answer.
  3. As we approach the holiday season many people (including Christians) will be spending a lot a money, based on your knowledge of the enticement of indwelling sin, what would be your advice to Christians about financial restraint?
  4. How would you debunk this statement: “I belief this is how God created me because I can’t control my impulse (the impulse is a sexual sin)”
