Sin & Temptation Questions – Ch. 6

TOLBC believes that growth in the Christian faith is a life-long endeavor and that one of the places it can happen best is in Sunday School class. Sunday school is important in the spiritual development of Christians. It is the only place in most churches that gives a systematic, comprehensive, complete coverage of the Word of God. Currently we are studying “Sin and Temptation” by John Owen. We invite you to join us.

Chapter 6: The Effect of Indwelling Sin  (Pages  79-91)

  1. Read 1 Kings 11:1-8 and identify the factor(s) responsible for King Solomon’s moral decline. How could he had averted such fate?
  2. Can a believer whose moral decline is unchecked loss his/her salvation? How would you interpret Heb. 6:1-8? (Please conduct a word study on any meaningful word in this passage)
  3. Is repentance genuine without contrition? What is the difference between Peter’s contrition (Matt. 26:69-75) and Judas’ contrition (Matt. 27:1-10)?
  4. Can a believer be experiencing moral decay and still be clueless about it?

Assuming you met an old friend and began sharing with him/her the gospel, and he/she responded “I don’t need Jesus Christ, I live by the ten commandments.” What would you say? (Please articulate your answer)
