Sin & Temptation Questions – Ch. 3

TOLBC believes that growth in the Christian faith is a life-long endeavor and that one of the places it can happen best is in Sunday School class. Sunday school is important in the spiritual development of Christians. It is the only place in most churches that gives a systematic, comprehensive, complete coverage of the Word of God. Currently we are studying “Sin and Temptation” by John Owen. We invite you to join us.

Chapter 3: Pages 35-58

  1. What is the relationship between the heart and the mind? Can the mind change the disposition of the heart?
  2. Someone just informed you that a close friend of yours has left his wife for another woman, and you have been invited to intervene, based on your knowledge of the “deceit of indwelling sin” how would you approach ( or confront) this situation?
  3. “The devil made me do it,” prepare a biblical rebuttal to this statement- use biblical examples to solidify your argument.
  4. You have been invited to preach, and the topic assigned to you is “the anatomy of deception.” Using 2 Sam. 11:1-27 develop three insights about deception (please thoroughly explain each insight).
  5. Is it possible to be a habitual sinner and still fear God? What would be your advice to a habitual sinner who says he/she fears God? In Rom. 12:2 the apostle Paul wrote “and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind . . .” How does one “renew his/her mind?”
